The Black Death was one of the most devastating plagues that impacted a majority of the Medieval European population as well as countries in Asia. The incurable plague spread at an alarming rate across Europe, killing the victims within weeks. It claimed the lives of about 75 million people. It took several hundreds of years for the world’s population to recover from the devastation of the plague. A plague of this magnitude had a tremendous social and economic impact on the society, and changed the lives of people from all walks of life. One of the short term effects was shock. Losing friends and loved ones in such a short term created fear and grief. People started going through depression and reacted in different ways. Apathy followed the period of grief. The Black Death also disrupted the customs of daily life.
